ABOUT US

The Air Force provides youth programs for youth and teens aged from 5-18 on all major bases, and houses school aged child care which supports employed parents of youth aged 5-12 years. The programs help youth transition from base to base, military life to civilian life, or high school to post-high school.

Activities are offered in the five core program areas:

Character and Leadership Development
The Arts
Youth Sports, Fitness and Recreation
Health and Life Skills
Education and Career Development

Youth Programs

School Age Program

Providing before- and after-school child care for school-aged kids ages 5-12. Summer and holiday camps are also available.

The School Age Program (SAP) is designed to promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of school-aged children through interactive hands-on experiences while having fun. We provide a safe, secure environment where children can extend their learning while complementing, rather than duplicating their school day.

We want your child’s experience in our program to be positive while we help them build self-esteem, independence, and a curiosity for new learning.

A parent is a child’s first and primary educator. Parents are invited to become a part of our youth care team. Please contact staff about sharing skills with us such as crafts, hobbies or languages. We would also like to share in any family heritage celebrations.

ACTIVITIES
A wide range of physical and non-physical activities are offered by the SAP. Outside activities differ daily. In inclement weather, the gymnasium is used. A homework center offers an inviting area to finish school work or to explore new interests. A weekly schedule of activities is posted on the parent information board at the Youth Center.

ELIGIBILITY AND ENROLLMENT
Dependents of active duty military members, DoD civilian employees and others authorized per AFI 34-144 are eligible for care in the School Age Program. Ages accepted are between 5 (must be enrolled or have completed kindergarten) and 12 years old.

To enroll your child go to militarychildcare.com

Open Recreation

The Open Recreation program is for children ages 9-12. This program offers a number of programs. Summer hours are from 1300-1800, and school hours are 1500-1800.

Boys and Girls Club Programs (BGCA)

BGCA has a long, proud partnership with the military. All military youth centers worldwide are affiliated with BGCA. This program provides high-quality activities and curriculums traditional Boys & Girls Clubs provide. In addition, one-year, no-cost memberships are provided to children of approximately 70 percent of families who live outside military installations. For more info go to BGCA.

4-H Clubs
Youth in grades K–12 can participate in a 4-H Club in their community, either on or off the installation. 4-H Clubs meet on a regular basis. During meetings members have fun as they learn new skills, participate in group projects and develop leadership skills as they work together with others. Youth select 4-H Project (s) to learn more about a topic that interests them. The clubs are led by volunteers, Youth Center staff, or local 4-H Extensions Agents. Members are encouraged to take part in public speaking events to build confidence, camps, and exhibit projects at local county fairs, Achievement Days or Round-ups. For more info go to 4-H Clubs.

Education & Career Programs
These programs help youth create aspirations for the future, providing opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement.

Character & Leadership Programs
Helping youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in the democratic process is the main thrust of these programs. They also develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for planning, decision-making, contributing to club and community, and celebrating our national heritage.

The Arts Programs
Programs in this core area enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.

Sports, Fitness and Recreation

Youth Sponsorship Program
Traveling overseas and starting over can be a daunting experience for anyone. Although children adapt very well and usually don’t show a lot of strain, Youth Programs wants to make their transition as smooth and exciting as possible. Our goal is to provide your child with an easy transition and foster new friendships.

Instructional Classes
Instructional classes in dance are available at the Youth Center.
